The 2015 Toshiba Chromebook 2 with the i3 is an impressive bit of kit. It sports 13.3-Inch Full HD IPS Display, Intel Core i3-5015U 2.1 GHz Processor and 4 GB of RAM. It’s only downside is it’s small 16 GB Solid-State Drive. However, it’s drive can be upgraded. It also comes stock with Chome OS, that too can be upgraded, making it into a very capable Linux machine. In this post I will be going over what it took to install Ubuntu 16 on my Toshiba Chromebook 2.
The issue with installing Ubuntu 16 on this Chromebook is that the graphical boot mode in Grub is incompatible with the video chip set. The key is to switch the grub boot from graphical, to text. You will need a Linux computer with an SD card reader to build the custom SD card. The card will need to be 2GB or bigger.
